What Are injectables?

Botox and Dysport are members of a class of anti-aging treatments referred to as injectables. These injectable muscle relaxants can be used to address well over half a dozen cosmetic concerns for both men and women.

Botox injections at Naples Wellness Center can also be used to treat medical conditions. Learn more about injectables treatment below.

What Is Botox Treatment?

Botox is the oldest injectable on the market. It can be used to reverse the signs of aging caused by dynamic facial muscles. However, it can do a lot more than just that. Thanks to its active ingredient onabotulinumtoxinA, it can be used to treat TMJ and hyperhidrosis, too. TMJ, also known as Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction, is a condition that causes pain in the jaw joint and makes jaw movement control difficult.

If you get Botox injections to treat TMJ, you can expect better muscle control in your lower face, improved range of motion in the jaw, and less pain. You can also expect your face to look slimmer.

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characteristic of excessive sweating in such areas of the body as the hands, feet, underarms, and pubic region. Botox can be used to treat this condition in individuals as young as 13.

What is Jeuveau Treatment?

Jeuveau is a botulinum toxin type A injection used in the treatment of wrinkles. It’s also sometimes called the new Botox or “Newtox” for short because it’s a new version of the same active ingredient used in original Botox Cosmetic injections. Jeuveau is FDA-approved.

While Jeuveau has many similarities with Botox, there are key characteristics that make this injection stand apart from other botulinum toxin injections. Jeuveau is a better fit for certain types of facial wrinkles compared to Botox. It’s also considered to be a better option for the treatment of glabellar lines, also known as frown lines, which are the vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows when someone frowns.

What Is Dysport Treatment?

Dysport is a similar injectable to Botox in that it can be used to treat a number of cosmetic concerns caused by overactive muscles. The primary difference is the key ingredient. Dysport works thanks to the neurotoxic protein known as abobotulinumtoxinA. Some of the most common conditions treated by Dysport are:

  • Forehead folds
  • Crow’s feet
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Sagging eyebrows
  • A thin upper lip
  • Smoker’s lines
  • Laugh lines
  • Frown lines

As a general rule of thumb, you can expect to need only one treatment session to achieve your desired cosmetic results with Dysport injections. However, depending on the severity of your cosmetic concerns, it is possible that you will need two injection sessions spaced a couple of weeks apart to achieve your desired results.

WHAT IS SCULPTRA Collagen Treatment?

Sculptra collagen treatment is an FDA-approved injectable that stimulates the production of healthy collagen. Collagen is the body’s most abundant protein; our bodies use it to form a framework to support our cells and tissue. Since Sculptra is able to rebuild collagen within your face, Sculptra can address an underlying cause of facial aging, not just the symptoms.

How Do Injectables Work

Both Botox, Jeuveau, and Dysport all work the same way. They relax overactive muscles by blocking some of the motor receptors in the treatment area. By blocking these receptors, electrical impulses can’t be sent from the brain to the muscle to tell it to contract. Therefore, the overly tense muscles start to relax.

As the overly tense muscles start to relax, the wrinkles formed within them start to relax. Once the relaxing muscles smooth themselves, the skin above the previously wrinkled muscles starts to smooth.

Sculptra is made with a material, called poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and helps to rebuild lost collagen through a series of treatments administered by a trained NAWI specialist. The results appear gradually and can last up to two years.

Will I Be Able To Move My Face After Neuromodulator Injections?

Yes, you will be able to move your face after receiving neuromodulator injections. To reiterate, this type of cosmetic treatment works by blocking some of the motor receptors in the treatment area. The unblocked motor receptors can still receive signals from the brain commanding movement. Therefore, you will be able to move your face normally after your treatment session. You just don’t have to worry about subconscious muscle tension.

It is also important to note that the treatment area will feel normal following your neuromodulator treatment. This is because the neurotoxic proteins present in the injectables do not block the sensory receptors in the area.

How Quickly Do injectables Work?

injectables work very quickly. In just two to four days, you will notice the results of your treatment session. In fact, 50% of people who receive this type of treatment can enjoy the effects of their injection session after just two to three days. The only exception is that people with extremely severe cosmetic concerns will not see their desired results until roughly 2.5 weeks after their first session due to needing a second session.

If you’re anxious to see your desired results as quickly as possible, there are things you can do to hasten your final results. For example, massaging your treated muscles regularly can hasten the appearance of your desired results by 25 to 34%. To enjoy this incredible benefit, you will need to massage your treated muscles five times daily for five minutes at a time. Just make sure you don’t use too much pressure when you massage the areas.

Who Are The Best Candidates for Injectable Treatment?

Injectables are safe and effective for most individuals who have concerns about excessively tense muscles. However, they are not appropriate for everyone. For example, when used for cosmetic purposes, good neuromodulator candidates are at least 18 years of age. If Botox is used to treat hyperhidrosis or TMJ, younger individuals may also be good candidates.

Who Is a Poor Fit for Neuromodulator Injections?

Regardless of your age, you will be considered a poor fit for neuromodulator injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You also will be considered a poor fit for this treatment if you suffer from bleeding or blood clotting disorders, skin irritation, or heart problems. Also, there is a chance that you will not qualify for neuromodulator injections if you are allergic to bovine protein. Please disclose your complete allergy history prior to any treatment.

How Do I Prepare for My Injection?

One of the most important preparation steps you must take prior to receiving neuromodulator injections is to not take certain sleep aids. They could affect your treatment. Other types of drugs that should not be taken prior to treatment due to potential contraindications include oral muscle relaxants and NSAIDs. If you have to take NSAIDs every day due to a heart condition or high risk of a heart condition, you may not qualify for this treatment.

The Bottom Line for Injectables

injectables, like Dysport, Jeuveau, and Botox, are the only effective way to reverse the signs of aging when they are caused by overactive muscles. This type of cosmetic treatment works by relaxing the overly tense muscles, subsequently relaxing the wrinkled skin above the muscles. Generally, people with cosmetic concerns caused by overactive muscles qualify if they are at least 18 years of age. Certain exceptions apply, though.
