NAWI Wellness – More Than A Med Spa

Med Spa vs. Day Spa

This is a post about Med Spa vs. Day Spa, the different roles, and the services offered. We hope that you enjoy this post and find it to be informative.

What is a Day Spa?

A day spa is primarily focused on providing relaxation, pampering, and rejuvenation experiences. Day spas offer a variety of non-medical services such as massages, facials, body wraps, manicures, pedicures, and aromatherapy treatments. Day spas typically prioritize creating a tranquil and calming environment to help clients unwind and de-stress.

While day spas may offer some basic skincare treatments, their main emphasis is on relaxation and general well-being rather than medical or clinical procedures. Day spas may not have medical professionals on staff, and their services are often performed by licensed estheticians or massage therapists.

What is a Med Spa?

A Med Spa offers a wide range of medical grade, non-surgical aesthetic treatments, performed by medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, or licensed aestheticians. Med spas focus on more advanced and result-oriented treatments designed to address specific skin and body concerns, issues related to aging, and personal wellness issues. The atmosphere may be relaxing and comfortable, but it will likely feel more clinical compared to a day spa. Med spas typically focus on specific treatments and the results from those treatments.

Services at a Med Spa might include skin treatments, like hydrafacials, injectables (such as Botox and dermal fillers), chemical peels, and microneedling. Other services at a Med Spa might include laser skin treatments, like BBL Hero, Moxi Laser, Laser Genesis, or Juliet Erbium Laser. Some med spas will also offer non-surgical weight loss and body sculpting with popular treatments such as Semaglutide, UltraSlim, Trusculpt, or Truflex. Finally, personal wellness services might be offered. These services might include Hormone Replacement Therapy and Vaginal Rejuvenation.

Is there Overlap between Day Spa and Med Spa?

Yes, it is quite possible for a Day Spa to still offer Med Spa treatments and vice versa. Increasingly, med spa treatments are offered by a wide variety of medical professionals, including dermatologists, plastic surgery offices, and even dental offices. As a client, it’s sometimes very confusing.

Regardless of the name of the business, there are several key questions that you, the client, might ask to help make the best selection. First and foremost, does the business you’re considering have a good reputation? Look at their online reviews. Do they have reviews from trusted sources, like Google or Facebook? If the reviews are not recent, not glowing, and/or not relevant to the treatment you’re seeking, that particular business may not be your best choice.

Next, try to discern whether the treatment you’re seeking is a mainstream service of that business, or just a side-line. You can do this by looking at their website to determine their main focus and their range of services offered. If the treatment you’re seeking appears to be a side-line, there are specific issues that might impact your experience and your results. For example, a side-line service may not employ the most up-to-date technologies, administered by the best and most-skilled people, and the results may not be the best possible.
